Oak Autumn

Posted: Oct 22, 2026 by: Debbie Bagwell (dbagwell) on: Oak Class

Welcome back to another busy and exciting term in Oak Class! We hope that everyone had a wonderful summer break and has returned feeling refreshed and ready for a fantastic year ahead.

This half term has been all about settling into new routines, building confidence, and welcoming new faces to our class.

In our Functional English lessons, pupils have been developing valuable life skills by learning how to complete different types of forms, including CVs and job applications. These activities help prepare our learners for future opportunities and promote greater independence.

Our sensory learners have thoroughly enjoyed exploring a range of engaging sensory stories, including Leaf Man, The Hairy Toe, and The Enormous Crocodile. These sessions have encouraged communication, engagement, and sensory exploration in a fun and interactive way.

In maths, pupils have been working towards their individual PLIM targets while developing their understanding of number, money, and 3D shapes.

We have also been delighted to return to our weekly swimming sessions, with pupils enjoying visits to both the hydrotherapy pool and the local leisure centre pool.

Alongside swimming, we have resumed our Conductive Education sessions. Pupils have been working hard on the activities within their Active Movement Plans, demonstrating determination and enthusiasm as they develop their physical skills and independence.

One of the highlights of the term has been our cookery lessons. Pupils have taken responsibility for creating shopping lists and recipes before visiting Sainsbury's to purchase the ingredients needed for their meals. They then work together to prepare and cook their own Wednesday lunches.

So far this term, we have successfully made:

  • Sausages and chips
  • Roast dinner
  • Chicken nuggets
  • Macaroni cheese
  • Chicken curry

We are incredibly proud of everything Oak Class has achieved so far this term and look forward to sharing more of our learning and successes with you in the coming months.
