National Autistic Society (NAS)
Our journey so far...
The school is committed to building further on our understanding of autism so that we can improve our practice and overall provision for learners with autism.
The Coppice School began its journey towards accreditation with the National Autistic Society some years ago resulting in our first successful assessment achieved in September 2018. This was followed by a second reaccreditation in September 2021.
41% of our pupils currently have a diagnosis of autism and so our ongoing development and increasing expertise in supporting autistic learners leads us now to our upcoming NAS assessment scheduled for October 2024.

Working with parents
A series of sessions for parents were delivered in the summer and autumn 2024 terms to cover a range of strategies used in school that might help to support learners with autism. These included sharing information to help with;
- sensory needs and sensory regulation
- social communication and interactions
- functional skills and how we develop independence
- emotional wellbeing
Our autism lead practitioner, Vicky Lloyd, shared a PowerPoint presentation to detail the school's work in this area. Click here to view the presentation.
Additional handouts to provide information regarding other aspects of our provision were available, to include;
